First, a definition

This quiz is about a method, not about you.

I am not calling business owners cavemen. I use “caveman marketing” to describe a method: relying almost entirely on slow, manual, brute-force promotion to find customers one person at a time.Kenneth Durrum, Released Solutions

Marketing has always involved tools. The tools have changed, but the basic challenge has not: how do you help the right people discover your business, understand its value and take the next step?

Some businesses are still hunting for every customer by hand. Others have websites and digital tools, but those tools do not work together. More advanced businesses have built measurable systems, and some are now learning how to work with AI.

Business cards, networking, referrals and personal outreach still have real value. The problem starts when they are the whole marketing system. This quiz is not a judgment of how smart, hardworking or successful you are. It is a practical look at how much leverage your marketing gives you.

What this stage means

Your five area scores

Your result describes your current marketing system, not your permanent identity. Most businesses are not entirely in one stage. You may be well ahead in one area and still rely on manual methods in another.

    The five stages

Are you practicing caveman marketing, or have you become an AI-augmented entrepreneur?

Hunting, collecting, building, connecting, augmenting. Each stage reflects how much leverage your marketing system gives you: how far your business can reach without you doing every step by hand.

    Stage 1 · Hunting

    The Hunter

Caveman marketing. Finds every customer by hand. When the hunting stops, the marketing stops.

    Stage 2 · Collecting

    The Tool Collector

Disconnected marketing. Owns a website, social accounts and email software that do not work as one system.

    Stage 3 · Building

    The Digital Builder

Customer-centered digital marketing. Customers can start their journey without meeting the owner first.

    Stage 4 · Connecting

    The Systems Marketer

Connected, measurable marketing. The owner can see where opportunities come from and what produces results.

    Stage 5 · Augmenting

    The AI-Augmented Entrepreneur

Human-led AI collaboration. AI adds speed and scale; the owner keeps strategy, accuracy, judgment and relationships.

Using AI does not automatically make your marketing more advanced. An owner who uses AI without positioning, measurement or customer understanding may still be practicing AI-assisted caveman marketing. That is why your stage can never sit more than one step above your weakest area.

    Ready to evolve your marketing?

Whatever stage you are in, the next step is usually one practical improvement, not a rebuild. Let's find yours.
